World Soil Day: Laura Ercoli, Marco Nuti, Elisa Pellegrino of Sant'Anna School among panelists at the conference "Rigenerazione del Suolo - Soluzioni per sistemi agricoli innovativi" organized by Chimica Verde
The initiative takes place Monday, December 5th, from 9 a.m., at the Accademia dei Georgofili in Florence, and explores the topic of new organic-based fertilizers
Food security is in danger: the loss of soil fertility, growing every year, is incentivizing degradation processes that threaten nutrition. To raise awareness of the ongoing challenges to soil management, World Soil Day is being celebrated on December 5th: an opportunity to make everyone more aware of the state of soil health and the practices that can be followed to improve it. In this context, Chimica Verde Bionet, an association formed by Legambiente Nazionale together with a group of experts from the world of Italian research and academia, is organizing the workshop "Rigenerazione del Suolo - Soluzioni per sistemi agricoli innovativi", scheduled for Monday, December 5th, from 9 a.m., at the Accademia dei Georgofili in Florence.
During the morning, Laura Ercoli, professor of Agronomy and Herbaceous Cultivation of and leader of the Plant-Soil Interactions Group, and Elisa Pellegrino, researcher in Agronomy and Herbaceous Cultivation, both representatives of the Crop Science Research Center of the Sant'Anna School, are scheduled to participate. The talk explores the topic of conservation agriculture for the protection of soil organic matter and fertility. In addition, the workshop includes a presentation by Marco Nuti, professor emeritus at the University of Pisa and collaborator of the Plant-Soil Interactions research group, to explore the applications and scientific implications of the new Fertilizer Regulations.
The initiative, this year focused on the recent opening of the European market to innovative organic-based fertilizers, includes a rich agenda, with greetings by Marcello Pagliai (Accademia dei Georgofili) and Sofia Mannelli (President of Chimica Verde Bionet), and then continuing with speeches by Giulio Volpi (DG Climate of the European Commission), Lorenzo D'Avino (CREA AA Florence), Maria Maddalena del Gallo (University of L'Aquila), Stefano Mocali (CREA AA), Claudio Marzadori (University of Bologna), David Chiaramonti (Polytechnic of Turin and Re-Cord Consortium), Roberto Matteo (CREA CI Bologna), Gianluca Brunori (University of Pisa), Debora Fino (President of Re Soil Foundation - Polytechnic of Turin), Vito Armando Laudicina (University of Palermo) and Paolo de Castro (EU Commission for Agriculture and Rural Development AGRI).
